How to Password Protect Your Notes

With the introduction of iOS 9.3, the Notes app gained the capability to password protect your Notes. If you have an iPhone with Touch ID, you can also use that to gain access. This feature has been met with much excitement, and I think the Notes app is finally becoming pleasant to use. Whether you want to protect confidential information or simply keep a private journal, here's how to password protect your notes.

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap Notes.

  • Select Password. You'll be prompted to create a password with a Hint. If you have Touch ID, you'll also see the option to enable it.
  • Set your password and tap Done.

  • You can change your password by tapping Change Password. Or to remove the password, tap Reset Password, enter your Apple ID password, confirm Reset, and select Cancel when prompted to enter a new password.

Be aware that adding a password to your Notes app doesn't protect the entire app. In order to password protect a Note, you must protect them individually.

  • Once you've set a Notes password in Settings, open the Notes app.
  • Find a note you want to password protect. Open it and tap the Share icon.
  • Tap Lock Note.

  • Enter your password to lock the note. Tap okay.
  • To officially lock the note, tap the lock in the upper, right corner.

  • To view the note, tap View Note and enter your password.
